WEBCAM WORKS — PRIVACY POLICY

Privacy Policy

EFFECTIVE 1 MAY 2026 · LORS

01 The short version

  • Your camera feed and recordings stay on your Mac.
  • The app sends anonymous events for control changes, preset applies, recording lifecycle, schedule rule fires, and the camera's vendor and product IDs. It also sends standard application-lifecycle events (launch, foreground, error).
  • We don't ask for an email to use the app. If you write to support or privacy, we keep that thread to help you and for nothing else.
  • No advertising IDs. No data brokers. No selling anything.

02 What we collect

Purchase data. Purchases go through the Mac App Store. Apple handles the transaction under its own policy; we receive a receipt that confirms the entitlement and nothing else. We don't see your name, your card, or your address. If you write to support, we keep that email thread for as long as we need to help you. We don't mine it. We just answer it.

App events. The app emits a named event each time something happens that we'd want to see in aggregate: control changed, preset created / applied / saved / deleted, recording started / finished / errored, schedule rule fired, camera selected, capability discovered, stream format changed. Each event carries the camera's name as macOS reports it, its USB vendor and product ID, and the active preset, if any. Standard application-lifecycle events (launch, foreground, background, error) come through the same stream.

03 What we don't collect

We don't collect:

  • Your camera feed, your microphone audio, or your recordings. The mic is only opened while the recorder is running, and the file goes to your disk, never to us.
  • Your screen contents.
  • Your browsing history, your location, or advertising IDs.
  • The names of the files on your disk, the networks you're on, or anything outside the app's own controls.
  • A profile of you that we sell to anyone, because we don't sell anything except the app.

04 Camera & video

Webcam Works tunes your camera at the USB layer and previews the result on your Mac. The tuned signal is delivered to whichever app consumes the camera (Zoom, OBS, FaceTime, anything UVC). We don't see your camera feed. We don't store it. We don't have a server it could even go to.

When you record, the recorder writes a .mov to your disk and briefly opens your microphone for audio. That file goes nowhere but the folder you chose for it. When Schedule rules use the "while an app is running" trigger, the app reads the list of running app bundle identifiers locally to decide when to fire. That list never leaves your Mac.

Features that require a server (like cloud-stored presets across machines) don't exist on purpose. If we ever build something like that, it will be opt-in and we'll explain the trade-off clearly.

05 Crash reports

Application-lifecycle and error events come through the same analytics stream described in §02. They include the app version, the macOS version, and the type of failure, but no camera feed, no recordings, no IP address attached by us. We use them to fix things, not to follow you.

06 Analytics

A single first-party analytics stream, with no third-party trackers or advertising SDKs alongside it. Events describe what you did in the app (control changes, preset applies, recording lifecycle, schedule rule fires) and the camera you did it with (vendor and product IDs, model name). We read these in aggregate to decide what to fix and what to build next. We don't sell them, share them with third parties, or attempt to re-identify you.

The events are stored and processed for us by a third-party analytics provider acting as our data processor under contract. They are bound to process the data only on our instructions, not to share it with anyone else, and not to use it for their own purposes. We picked a provider whose own privacy posture matches ours; if that ever stops being true, we'll switch and tell you.

07 Payment data

Webcam Works is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple handles your name, address, and card details under its own privacy policy. We never see them. We receive only the App Store receipt, which confirms you're entitled to the one-time unlock and lets us honor Family Sharing. Nothing more.

08 Children

Webcam Works isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

09 Your rights

You have the right to ask what data we have on you, correct it, take it with you, or have us delete it. Email privacy@lors.ai and we'll handle it within 30 days, usually much faster. There's not much to send. Most likely it's your email and a list of your invoices. But it's yours.

If you're in the EU/UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We hope you don't need to.

10 Changes & contact

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app and by email before the change takes effect. The current version always lives at this URL. Earlier versions are available on request.

Privacy questions: privacy@lors.ai. Everything else: hello@lors.ai.

We wrote this policy the way we'd want one written for us. If anything in it feels off, please tell us.
