What your camera
can do.

Webcam Works works with any USB webcam that follows the UVC standard, and it shows the settings each camera actually reports. A few models get extra controls we mapped one by one. Built-in and iPhone cameras work too, within the limits Apple sets.

01 — USB WEBCAMS

USB webcams.

UVC, short for USB Video Class, is the standard most USB webcams follow. It lets a Mac use the camera without a driver and defines a common set of controls. Webcam Works reads that list from the camera and shows only what it finds.

01IMAGEBrightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and anti-flicker for 50 or 60 Hz lights.
02EXPOSUREAuto or manual exposure, exposure time, gain, white balance, and backlight compensation. Smart AE is a third option: Webcam Works holds a steady brightness for you.
03FOCUS AND FRAMINGAutofocus, manual focus, zoom, pan, and tilt, when the camera has them.
04FORMATEvery resolution and frame rate the camera offers. A combination that's missing is one the camera can't do.
05WHAT'S LEFT OUTControls a camera lists but can't actually change are hidden. A control the camera keeps refusing becomes read-only for the session instead of pretending to work.
06SETTINGS THAT STICKChanges are made on the camera itself, so every app that uses it sees them. Webcam Works remembers what it applied and puts it back when the camera reconnects.
02 — MODEL-SPECIFIC CONTROLS

Extra controls by model.

Field of view and HDR have no standard UVC control. Each brand hides them in its own extension or repurposes a standard control, so we map them one model at a time and check each one on the camera itself. A camera not listed here gets the standard controls above.

01LOGITECH BRIOField of view at 90°, 78°, or 65° on the Brio 4K, Brio 4K Stream Edition, Brio 500, Brio 501, Brio 505, and MX Brio. HDR on the Brio 4K, Brio 4K Stream Edition, and Brio 505 at 30 fps or lower; at 60 fps it switches off and comes back when you return to 30. HDR on the Brio 500, Brio 501, and MX Brio isn't mapped yet. Other Brio models get the standard controls.
02LOGITECH C920 / C922Standard UVC controls only, such as exposure, white balance, and focus, as the camera reports them. No field-of-view or HDR mapping. The original C920 (USB ID 046D:082D) can reset exposure when video starts, so Webcam Works applies your settings again right after it starts the camera's video.
03RAZER KIYO PROField of view: Wide, Medium, or Narrow. HDR on or off at 30 fps or lower; at 60 fps it switches off, and you can turn it back on at 30. The original Kiyo and other Razer models get the standard controls.
04ELGATO FACECAMWorks as a standard UVC camera, with the controls it reports. No Elgato-specific settings are mapped.
05INSTA360 LINKWorks as a standard UVC camera, with the controls it reports. Tracking, gestures, and other Insta360 modes are not mapped.
06DELL ULTRASHARP WB7022Field of view at 90°, 78°, or 65°. HDR on or off at any frame rate.
07ANKERWORK C310Field of view at 95°, 78°, or 65°, plus Auto, which crops to follow your face. HDR on or off, including at 60 fps.
03 — BUILT-IN AND IPHONE CAMERAS

Built-in and iPhone cameras.

macOS manages a Mac's built-in camera and iPhone Continuity Camera itself. It sets their brightness, exposure, and white balance automatically and doesn't let other apps change them. Webcam Works gives you what Apple does expose.

01BUILT-IN CAMERAFormat, for resolution and frame rate, and Effects. You can switch Center Stage on or off from Webcam Works where the camera supports it. Portrait, Studio Light, and Reactions show their status, but only macOS can switch them, from the Video menu in the menu bar while an app is using the camera.
02STUDIO DISPLAYApple's Studio Display camera is the exception. It connects over USB, so Webcam Works treats it like a USB webcam and shows the standard controls it reports, such as zoom.
03CONTINUITY CAMERAYour iPhone gets the same Format and Effects controls as a built-in camera. It reconnects after your Mac sleeps, and two iPhones with the same name both appear.
04WHAT STILL WORKSThe virtual camera, backgrounds, overlays, recording, presets, Fill Light, and Teleport work with any camera, built-in and iPhone included.

05 — APPS

Apps.

There are two ways to use Webcam Works with another app, and you can use both.

01YOUR WEBCAMPick your webcam by its own name. Settings you change in Webcam Works are made on the camera, so the app sees them without knowing Webcam Works exists.
02WEBCAM WORKS CAMERAPick Webcam Works Camera to get the finished picture: color adjustments and LUTs, background blur or replacement, overlays, and Be Right Back. In Screen mode it keeps sending your face, and you share the Webcam Works Output window to present your screen. Webcam Works needs to be running, but its window can be closed.
03WORKS INZoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Discord, OBS, QuickTime, and any other app that lets you choose a camera.
04NOT IN THE LIST?Most apps read the camera list only when they start. If Webcam Works Camera isn't there, quit and reopen the app.
06

Camera not listed?

Try it anyway. Most USB webcams follow the UVC standard, and Webcam Works shows exactly what yours reports, so the 14-day trial will tell you more than any list. If a control is missing or behaves oddly, email us your camera model, Mac model, and macOS version. If your camera doesn't follow the standard, we'll tell you what's missing.
