Unplug a webcam or restart your Mac, and its settings can go back to the factory defaults. Webcam Works saves your setup as a preset, applies it again when the camera reconnects, and can switch presets for you when Zoom comes to the front or the workday starts.
What's included.
New from current
One click saves the camera as it is now: image, exposure, Smart AE, white balance, focus, HDR, resolution, and frame rate. The new preset becomes active and asks for a name.
The virtual camera look, too
A preset also keeps the Webcam Works virtual camera's look: color adjustments, LUT, background, and overlays. One click brings back both halves.
Six factory presets
Default, Auto Everything, Smart, Video Call, Warm Indoor, and Streaming. Each one is fitted to your camera's own ranges when it first connects. Built-in and iPhone cameras get Default only, since there's little else to set.
Back after a restart
Each time the camera connects, Webcam Works applies the active preset, then any changes you made after it. A restart or an unplug stops meaning a fresh start.
Modified, then Update Preset
Move a slider and the active preset shows Modified. Update Preset saves the new values. A factory preset you've changed can go back with Revert to original.
Visualize
Bakes a thumbnail for each preset so you can compare them at a glance. The active one is grabbed from the camera. The others are rendered from a neutral frame, so the preview flickers briefly while it works. USB webcams only.
Presets by app
Apply a preset when a chosen app comes to the front: one look for Zoom, another for OBS. When an app rule and a time rule both match, the app rule wins.
Presets by time
Apply a preset during a time window on the days you pick, such as 9 to 6 on weekdays. A window can run past midnight.
Per camera
Each camera keeps its own presets and rules, including two cameras of the same model.
How it works.
- 01Set up the cameraAdjust exposure, white balance, focus, and the rest in Webcam Works until the live preview looks right.
- 02Click New from currentOn Presets, click New from current and type a name. The preset is saved and active.
- 03Switch with a clickClick any preset to apply it to the camera. It moves to the top and shows as Active.
- 04Add a rule if you want oneOn Schedule, click New rule. Choose Time of day, or App is running for a rule that applies while that app is in front. Pick the days or the apps, and choose the preset to apply.

If your webcam goes back to its defaults after every restart, the active preset comes back as soon as Webcam Works sees the camera.
Questions.
01How do I save my webcam settings on a Mac?
macOS has no place to save them, so you need an app that talks to the camera. In Webcam Works, set the camera up, open Presets, and click New from current. Click the preset any time to put those settings back.
02Why does my webcam reset its settings after a restart?
Many webcams don't keep their settings through a power cycle, and some apps write their own settings when they open the camera. Webcam Works applies your active preset, plus any changes after it, each time the camera connects. Turn on Open at Login in the Webcam Works menu so that happens after a restart, and open Webcam Works before your meeting app.
03Can my webcam settings change automatically when I open Zoom?
Yes. On Schedule, add a rule with App is running, pick Zoom, and choose a preset. It applies while Zoom is the app in front. If you pick a preset by hand, the rule steps aside until the app or time window changes. When no rule matches, the camera keeps its current settings.
04Will Zoom and Teams see my webcam preset?
Yes. On a USB webcam the settings are written to the camera, so any app using it sees them, without the virtual camera. The virtual camera part of a preset, such as a background or an overlay, shows only in apps set to Webcam Works Camera.
05What does a webcam preset save?
The camera's controls, such as exposure, gain, white balance, focus, and image settings, plus Smart AE, HDR, resolution, frame rate, and the virtual camera look. Pan, tilt, and field of view aren't part of a preset. Webcam Works keeps those where you left them instead.
06Do presets work with the built-in camera or an iPhone?
Yes, with less in them. macOS manages exposure and color on built-in and Continuity cameras, so there are no camera controls to save. On a built-in camera a preset holds resolution, frame rate, and the virtual camera look. With an iPhone as Continuity Camera, it holds the virtual camera look.
