Webcam Works adds a camera to your Mac called Webcam Works Camera. Pick it in Zoom, Meet, or Teams, and the call gets your color, background, and overlays. Screen mode adds a view of your screen with you in the corner, which you share as a window. Your webcam's own settings are left alone.

Works wherever you pick a camera
Webcam Works Camera shows up next to your other cameras in Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Discord, OBS, and QuickTime Player. Whatever you set up here is what every one of them receives.
Color and LUTs
Lift, Exposure, Contrast, Vibrance, Tint, Gamma, and Definition adjust the outgoing picture in software. Add a built-in look such as Warm, Cool, or Cinematic, or import your own .cube LUT.
Background blur, color, or image
Blur the room behind you and set how much, or swap it for a solid color or an image. The cutout is done on your Mac, and like any software cutout, it does best when you stand out clearly from what's behind you.
Soften
Soften smooths skin on the faces it finds and keeps eyes and mouth sharp. An Amount slider lets you keep it subtle.
Text, logo, and REC overlays
Add a line of text, an image such as a logo, or a REC indicator. Put each one in a corner and set its size and opacity.
Your screen, with you in the corner
Screen mode shows a display or a single window with your camera in a round or rectangular bubble. The virtual camera keeps sending just your face. To present the screen view, share the Webcam Works Output window in your call.
Be Right Back
BRB mode replaces your camera with a card showing your message, an optional return time, and a background color. Every app using Webcam Works Camera sees the card instead of you.
A guest in your tile
Start a Teleport and share the link. Your guest joins from a browser on their phone or computer, with no account or install, and appears beside you in the same camera tile, so your call app still sees one webcam.
Size, frame rate, and mirroring
The virtual camera offers 16:9 sizes from 720p up to 4K at 30 frames per second, and each app takes the size it asks for. The Output setting on the Record card caps the size, and Mirror Feed flips the picture for apps and recordings alike.
How it works.
- 01Turn on Virtual CameraOpen the Virtual Camera card in Webcam Works and switch it on. Nothing reaches other apps until it's running.
- 02Approve it oncemacOS asks before any app can add a virtual camera. Choose Open System Settings in the dialog, not OK, then scroll to Extensions, click By Category, then Camera Extensions, and turn on Webcam Works. This is a one-time step.
- 03Pick Webcam Works CameraIn Zoom, Meet, Teams, or any other app, open its video settings and choose Webcam Works Camera, not your webcam's own name. If it isn't listed, quit and reopen that app.
- 04Set the lookAdjust color, background, overlays, and mode while you watch the preview. The call updates as you go. Save it as a preset and it comes back in one click.

Share the Webcam Works Output window to present a window or a whole display with your face in the corner, so people watching the shared screen still see who's talking. Switch to BRB during the break.
Streams and interviews
Add a name or a logo, and bring in a guest with Teleport. If your guest isn't in the call themselves, use speakers rather than headphones: their voice plays through your Mac so the call can hear them.

01How do I use a virtual camera in Zoom on a Mac?
Turn on Virtual Camera in Webcam Works. In Zoom, open Settings, then Video, and choose Webcam Works Camera from the camera menu. If it isn't listed, quit Zoom completely and open it again, since many apps read the camera list only when they start. The first time, macOS also asks you to approve the camera extension.
02Why doesn't the virtual camera show up in Google Meet?
Browsers often read the camera list only when they start, so quit the browser completely, not just the tab, and open Meet again. If it's still missing, check the status on the Virtual Camera card: One approval left in System Settings means macOS is still waiting for you to allow the extension. If Meet had the camera and lost it, for example after an update, choose another camera in Meet and then Webcam Works Camera again.
03Why does macOS ask me to allow a camera extension?
macOS asks before any app can add a virtual camera. It's separate from the camera access you already gave Webcam Works. In the macOS dialog, choose Open System Settings, not OK. Under General, then Login Items & Extensions, scroll to Extensions, click By Category, then Camera Extensions, and turn on Webcam Works. On a work-managed Mac, your IT administrator may need to allow camera extensions.
04How do I share my screen with my webcam in the corner on a Mac?
Set the Virtual Camera mode to Screen, click Choose, and pick a display or a window in the macOS sharing picker. Place your camera bubble in a corner and set its size, shape, and border. Then use your call app's screen sharing and share the window named Webcam Works Output. Your camera tile keeps showing only your face, so the screen doesn't appear twice.
05How do I show a be right back screen in Zoom?
Set the Virtual Camera mode to BRB, type your message, and add a return time if you want one. Zoom, and any other app using Webcam Works Camera, shows the card in place of your camera. BRB covers the picture only, so mute your microphone separately.
06How do I blur my background on a Mac webcam?
On the Virtual Camera card, set Background to Blur and adjust Blur Amount, then choose Webcam Works Camera in your call app. You can use a solid color or an image instead. macOS also has a Portrait effect of its own, in the Video menu that appears in the menu bar while an app is using the camera, on Macs and cameras that support it. If a plain blur is all you need, try that first.
07Does Webcam Works need to stay open for the virtual camera to work?
The app needs to be running, but its window doesn't. Close the window and the virtual camera keeps feeding your call. If you quit Webcam Works, apps using the camera show a dark card that says Webcam Works is not running.
